Sanur faces east, so the day starts with sunrise over a shallow reef instead of a west-coast sunset crowd. The beach path runs for kilometres from Mertasari up past the old harbour, lined with jukung boats, family hotels, and cafés that still feel unhurried. It is one of the best bases in Bali for families, longer stays, and anyone who wants the sea without the Canggu–Kuta nightlife.
Jalan Danau Tamblingan is the main spine for restaurants and small shops. Offshore, the reef keeps most of the water calm; at low tide you can walk a long way out. Fast boats to Nusa Penida and Nusa Lembongan leave from Sanur harbour, which is why so many island-hopping days begin here at dawn. Inland, the road toward Denpasar and then Gianyar opens the classic temple circuit: Goa Gajah, Tirta Empul, and the rice terraces above Ubud.
A private driver is useful for the 5 a.m. harbour run, for a full-day east-Bali loop, and for transfers that avoid the worst of the Bypass. Parking along the beach road is limited; being dropped and collected beats circling in a rental car. Ask for a sunrise beach hour, a boat connection, or a slow temple day — Sanur sits in a sweet spot for all three.
